Aley Committees
Trustees
The Church Trustees are at least nine laymen elected to sign documentation in trust for the church on all legal transactions. They hold legal representatives in all transactions related to the church. They hold legal title to the church property and sign all documents related to the purchase, sale, mortgaging or rental of church property, only after approval by the church in regular or called business session. The Church Trustees relate to the congregation as legal tenders/trustees on their behalf. They function in cooperation with the Pastor, Moderator, Clerk and Treasurer to maintain all related documentation and infrasture on behalf of the church. This committee will meet monthly or as necessary.
Finance
The purpose of the Church Finance Committee is to assume total responsibility for the finances of the congregation. This shall include developing and monitoring the church budget/ financial recording and reporting, disbursement, investment planning, and auditing of records. The Church Finance Committee shall consist of at least five persons including a chairperson, council liaison, financial secretary, treasurer, member for budget, and member for audit. This committee will meet monthly or as necessary.
Staff Parish
The Staff-Parish Relations Committee is the administrative unit where staff and congregational interests are integrated to focus on the mission of the church. They carry some of the same functions of a personnel office or Human Resources department in other organizations. The SPRC has primary responsibility to work with staff so that the mission of the church is realized. The SPRC should have a clear understanding of your local church's mission and vision, built upon the mission of the wider Church.
Church Council
The purpose of the church council is to plan a program of nurture, outreach, and witness; implement the plan; provide an administrative infrastructure; align the plan with the mission of the church; evaluate the effectiveness of the plan; act as the administrative agency of the charge conference.
The church council exists to create and supervise the strategic plan for the congregation so that the congregation fulfills its mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ. This twofold function includes both leadership and management. Leadership is the visionary, "big picture" work that assesses critically where your congregation is at the present moment, where God is calling it to be in the future, and what resources will be required to move from your current reality into the desired future. Management is the essential "detail work" that must be accomplished on a daily basis to make the congregation effective.
